Sierra Vista Regional Health Center and
SVRHC Hospice, Casa de la Paz
Receive Joint Commission Re-Accreditation in 2012
Patient safety and delivering quality care are two of the pressing health care challenges in America. By demonstrating compliance with The Joint Commission's national standards for health care quality and safety, Sierra Vista Regional Health Center (SVRHC) and SVRHC Hospice, Casa de la Paz earned another Joint Commission's Gold Seal of Approval™.
SVRHC has been accredited since 1973 and the current hospital accreditation is valid through May 2015. “The Joint Commission process is designed to guide organizations to continuously provide safe, high quality care, treatment and services by identifying opportunities for process improvement through voluntary accreditation,” indicates Margaret Hepburn, R.N., M.S., FACHE, SVRHC President and CEO.
Mark Pelletier, R.N., M.S., executive director for Hospital Programs Accreditation and Certification Services with The Joint Commission explains, "Above all, the national standards are intended to stimulate continuous, systematic and organization-wide improvement in an organization's performance and the outcomes of care. The community should be proud that SVRHC is focusing on the most challenging goal -- to continuously raise quality and safety to higher levels." The Executive Summary identified no requirements for improvement for SVRHC and SVRHC Hospice, Casa de la Paz .
Hepburn congratulated the hospital staff by expressing, "Full accreditation by the Joint Commission is a tangible recognition of the excellent work done by staff and physicians at SVRHC every single day. The standards required by The Joint Commission are stringent and can only be accomplished through teamwork and a focus on excellence.” Hepburn called the accreditation, "proof of an organization-wide commitment to provide quality care on an ongoing basis."
Gina Zimmermann, M.S., senior executive director for The Joint Commission says, "In becoming accredited, SVRHC and SVRHC, Hospice Casa de la Paz was evaluated against a set of national standards by the Joint Commission team of surveyors who are experienced in the delivery of hospital and home care services. Achieving accreditation demonstrates SVRHC and SVRHC, Hospice Casa de la Paz’s commitment to provide high quality and safe care to its clients."
Hepburn says, “The Joint Commission accreditation shows that we make a significant investment in quality on a day-to-day basis from the top down. We seek accreditation for our organization because we want to be the best and we view obtaining Joint Commission accreditation as another step toward excellence. Everyone at SVRHC plays a valuable role in working to meet the standards; and I am very proud of the accomplishments and the fine service provided by our physicians and staff. I feel very fortunate to work alongside the fine individuals providing care at SVRHC.”
