A foundation is a nonprofit organization that supports charitable
activities in order to serve the common good of an organization.
Whether through public or private donations, fundraising events, or
endowments, the Foundation of an organization will generally make
grants or operate programs with the income earned from investing the
funds. Corporate foundations are created and funded by companies
as separate legal entities, operated by a board of directors that is
usually comprised of company officials or volunteers. Corporations may
establish private foundations with endowments, make periodic
contributions from profits, or combine both methods to provide a
foundation’s resources. Some companies operate in-house corporate
giving programs, which unlike corporate foundations are under the full
control of the company. Many corporations maintain both a foundation
and a corporate giving program.

That’s the purpose of Sierra Vista Regional Health Center’s Foundation which was established in 1992. As the hospital has grown, the requirement for a central channel through which funds may be received, recorded, and allocated was needed. The Foundation’s primary responsibility as a 501(c)3 corporation is to encourage a steady flow of funds to the hospital from individuals and organizations within the hospital’s service area. These funds enable SVRHC to continue providing its patients with the finest healthcare equipment, programs and services possible...as well as provide the resources necessary for construction, expansion and remodeling projects which will meet the future healthcare needs of the region. In FY 2009, through the Foundation's events, Grateful Patient Program, and Employee Giving Campaign the Foundation netted $277,822.77. These monies were donated to several different programs throughout the hospital such as the diabetes education program for residents in Cochise County and financial support for the SVRHC CARE Program - who provide classes for parents in the community who have suffered the devastating loss of a child.
Several of the programs and newer pieces of equipment donated to the hospital through the Foundation have been possible due to a collaborative effort between the board members and the volunteers who organize and promote the fundraisers along with public and private donors within the community. “Without these groups of people working together for a united cause, the Foundation would not have been able to provide the hospital with cardiac monitors, C-arms, and digital mammography services,” says Eva Dickerson, Foundation Manager. Each of the Foundation’s lucrative fundraisers is unique in that they are open to the entire community and offer a multitude of fun while working to raise money for a good cause – your local hospital.
