What to expect for your cardiac catheterization:
The night before your procedure:
Do not eat or drink anything after midnight
The morning of your procedure:
If you take daily medication check with your
doctor about which medications you should take.
You will be asked to arrive about 2 hours before your actual procedure to allow time for preparation.
When you come to the hospital please check in at the Client Services Concierge desk and they will direct you to the pre-procedural area.
Leave your valuables at home.
You may bring something to read or a video to watch. There is no cable television available, there are, however, a TV and VCR available.
After your procedure:
Your procedure will take about 1 hour and your
recovery can take anywhere from 4 to 8 hours.
You will be required to lay flat during your recovery.
For your own safety you will not be able to drive yourself home. You must have someone to drive you home.
Someone responsible should stay with you for the first 24 hours after your procedure.
Special Tips:
Please limit the number of people accompanying
you to two (2). These people are welcome to stay or we call them when you
are ready to go home.
Times vary, but you can plan that you will be with us from 4-9 hours total.
If there is a possibility that you’re pregnant, please be sure to discuss this with your physician prior to scheduling your catheterization.
In some cases there is a possibility that you will be admitted to the hospital if your Doctor finds it necessary.
