Sierra Vista Regional Health Center’s Laboratory is a full-service laboratory
accredited by the Joint Commission for Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations
and the College of American Pathologists. It is under the direction of a board-certified
pathologist and has two full-time pathologists. Registered Medical Technologists
and other lab professionals who assist the clinician in the diagnosis and
proper management of the patient, staff our Laboratory.
The laboratory actively participates in a nationally certified Inter-laboratory
survey program whereby we are evaluated in relationship to our nationwide
peer group.
The usefulness of laboratory data in making clinical judgments depends upon
prompt, accurate reporting of results. The procedure to generate a result
consists of a series of steps or processes. A knowledgeable understanding
enables the technologist to achieve near optimal conditions and further improve
the accuracy and precision of each measurement.
Collection and handling, verification of patient identity, and specimen processing
prior to analysis are given prime consideration. Validity of the data obtained
from the specimen is highly dependent upon the excellence of laboratory staff
technique, to include proper operation of equipment, use of high quality reagents,
and adherence to a rigid quality control program.
The laboratory continually updates its technology to such a degree that we
take a great deal of pride in being self-sufficient, and in having the ability
to ensure our own quality, provide prompt patient care.
